Research project “The Psychological is Political”

In “The psychological is political: A recent history of feminist psychology in Vienna, 1972-2000”, project members Nora Ruck, Vera Luckgei, Elisabeth Parzer, Max Beck, Nina Franke, and Florian Knasmüller analyze the development of feminist psychologies in Vienna. Drawing on archival research and oral history interviews, we research feminist psychological knowledge developed in consciousness-raising groups, women’s counseling and information centers, community colleges, and at the University of Vienna. In our analysis, we focus on the institutional and social context of psychological knowledge about the psychological conditions and consequences of gender inequality in order to get a sense of the conditions that have facilitated or hindered the development of knowledge about the psychological dimensions of gender inequality.
